Mihaela G. Gadjeva, PhD

Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School
Mihaela Gadjeva is interested in host-pathogen interactions, and more specifically, how immune responses to pathogens can be therapeutically manipulated to induce resistance to infection. Currently, Gadjeva has helped to identify commensal species, which promote resistance to infection by regulating local IL-1-driven responses, thereby regulating trafficking of neutrophils and the magnitude of their activation. These studies were published in Plos Pathogens (2016) and Immunity (2017) and received significant media interest as reflected by numerous press releases: Boston Globe satellite, Cell Press news release, Nuclear Energy Institute/National Institutes of Health release, Times website, Labroots, and Gizmodo.
