Michelle Anne Delaney is the senior program officer for history and culture in the Smithsonian's Office of the Provost/Under Secretary for Museums and Research. Delaney is leading Signature Programs expansion in the areas of understanding the American experience and valuing world cultures, with current emphasis on cultural heritage preservation, innovation, immigration, and waterways projects, and provides central administrative management and programmatic support for the nine Smithsonian American history and culture museums and research centers. Previously, Delaney was consortia director for the Smithsonian Grand Challenges Consortia for the Humanities, and curator of photography in the Photographic History Collection, National Museum of American History. Delaney chaired the editorial team for the 2013 publication Smithsonian Civil War: Inside the National Collection, and has authored and edited several photography books, and curated more than twenty Smithsonian exhibitions and related web projects. Delaney holds a BA in American studies from Manhattanville College, an MA in American studies from the George Washington University, and is a current history PhD candidate at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. Delaney serves on the advisory board of the Buffalo Bill Memorial Association and the National Daguerreian Society.
