Julio Lumbreras, PhD

Dr. Julio Lumbreras holds a degree on chemical and environmental engineering from the Technical University of Madrid (UPM), and a master's in public administration from the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government (HKS). Lumbreras is passionate about increasing sustainability in higher education, turning universities into key agents to systemically transform cities towards sustainability. He received his PhD on air quality in 2003 from UPM. Currently, he is Associate Professor at UPM and a Visiting Scholar at HKS. He is the UPM's Director for North America. He is a member of the European Commission Mission Board for climate-neutral and smart cities. He is founding associate editor of the Open Access Journal on Frontiers in Sustainable Cities. He is co-author of more than 60 papers and book chapters. He has participated in many international workshops and conferences on urban air quality, climate change, and sustainable development. He has collaborated in more than 50 research works.
