IDs and Login Information

Knowing what online resources are available to you and how to access them is an important part of being a successful student.

As a Harvard Extension School student, you have two identification (ID) numbers and associated login credentials:

DCE ID number and PIN

Your DCE ID number uniquely identifies you within the Division of Continuing Education. It was assigned to you, along with your DCE PIN, the first time you created an online services account. Together, your DCE ID and PIN provide initial login access to Harvard Extension and Summer School online services. Once you claim a HarvardKey (see below), you may discontinue use of your DCE ID and PIN.

Where do I find my DCE ID number and PIN?

Your DCE ID number begins with the “@” symbol. If you do not know your DCE ID number, you may request it from the online services login page. You may also visit Enrollment Services at 51 Brattle Street with a government-issued photo ID.

If you do not know your DCE PIN, you may reset it on the online services login page.

Harvard ID and HarvardKey

Your HarvardKey is your login credential for Harvard University resources. Your Harvard University ID number (HUID) allows you to claim a HarvardKey and uniquely identifies you within Harvard University. If you are new to Harvard, your Harvard ID number will be issued and activated generally within two business days of your course registration.

Returning students: HarvardKey is the successor to the Harvard PIN system and is intended to provide simpler, more secure access to e-resources by enabling you to log in using a login name and password instead of an HUID and PIN. To log in to University resources, you must have a HarvardKey.

Where do I find my HarvardKey?

Once your Harvard ID number is issued and activated, you can claim your HarvardKey at key.harvard.edu and use your HarvardKey to access the following resources, including online services:

  • Most password-protected course websites
  • Harvard computer accounts
  • Harvard library electronic resources
  • Online course videos
  • Links to live web-conference courses
  • MessageMe, the Harvard emergency text notification system

If you have trouble claiming a HarvardKey, contact Enrollment Services at (617) 495-4024 or extension@dcemail.harvard.edu.

Remember to keep all your ID numbers, PINs, and passwords confidential.
