Limited-Enrollment Courses and Waitlists

Many courses have enrollment limits, which are identified in the descriptions. Some limited-enrollment courses also require a passing score on the test of critical reading and writing skills before registration.

To register for courses with limited enrollment

  • Check course availability. Use the course search to find courses and check availability. You can also find out whether a course is available by clicking on the “Check availability and location” link in each course description.

  • Register online. It is the fastest way to register. You know immediately whether you are admitted, waitlisted, or closed out of a course so that you can register for an alternate course, if necessary.

  • Register early in the registration period. Courses with limited enrollment fill quickly, and registration is first-come, first-served.

  • If the course is full when you register, you may register for a place on the waitlist. You are charged full tuition. If the waitlist is full, the course is closed and you may not register for it.

  • For limited-enrollment courses that require the test of critical reading and writing skills, take the test as early as possible before registration begins. You cannot register for a course that requires this test unless you have a passing test score or minimum required grade in an alternate course. For more information, visit Placement Tests.

  • Attend all classes (or participate online, if applicable) and complete all required work to keep your seat through the late registration period. If you do not attend or participate during this time, you may be dropped from the course by the Registrar. If you register late for a limited-enrollment course you haven’t attended, your registration may be canceled.

Information for students on waitlists

  • You are charged full tuition.

  • Your waitlist position is based on the date and time of your registration.

  • We cannot predict your chances for admission.

  • To be eligible for admission, you must attend all classes (or participate online, if applicable) and complete all required work through late registration.

  • Instructors do not make admissions decisions, although they may report attendance to the Registrar’s Office, where admissions decisions are made, so that only attending and participating students are admitted.

  • To see if you are still waitlisted, log in to online services and select “Course Registration and Schedule” from the main menu. You will be sent an e-mail message the next business day after being admitted to a course or closed off of a waitlist.

  • You may drop from a waitlist for a full-tuition refund at any time before the refund deadline.

  • You should attend an alternate, open-enrollment course in case you are not admitted from the waitlist. If your alternate course has an enrollment limit, you should register for it so that you can attend and be eligible for admission.

  • Waitlists are resolved by the end of late registration.

  • If you are not admitted to the course for which you are waitlisted, you receive a full-tuition refund for that course, and you may no longer attend it. Registration fees are nonrefundable.

  • If you are admitted to the course for which you are waitlisted and you also registered for an alternate course, you must drop the alternate course by the full-tuition refund deadline if you do not want to be registered and enrolled in both courses.
