ID Numbers and PINs
As a Harvard Extension School student, you have two sets of identification (ID) numbers and associated personal identification numbers (PINs).
- DCE ID number and PIN
- Harvard University ID number (HUID) and PIN
DCE ID number and PIN
Your DCE ID number and PIN uniquely identify you within the Division of Continuing Education, which encompasses the Harvard Extension School and Harvard Summer School.
Your DCE ID and PIN provide access only to DCE online services.
Your DCE ID and PIN are assigned to you the first time you create a DCE online services account. Your DCE ID number begins with the “@” symbol. If you do not know your DCE ID number, you may reset it from the online services login page or visit the Information Services lobby at 51 Brattle Street with a government-issued photo ID. If you do not know your DCE PIN, you may request it from the online services login page.
Harvard ID number and PIN
Your Harvard University ID number (HUID) and Harvard PIN uniquely identify you within Harvard University.
Your HUID and PIN are required for:
- Access to your Extension course websites and distance course videos
- Activating your Harvard e-mail account
- Access to Harvard library electronic resources and other Harvard electronic resources
Your Harvard ID and PIN provide access to DCE online services, as well, so once you have your HUID and PIN, you can stop using your DCE ID and PIN.
If you are new to Harvard, your Harvard ID number is generally assigned and activated within two business days of your registration. You may see your HUID in “Student Information and Status” in online services. You are also sent an e-mail message about your HUID and PIN from the Registrar’s Office.
Once your Harvard ID number is activated, you must request a Harvard PIN via the Harvard PIN System. If you have trouble requesting or receiving a PIN via e-mail, call Information Services at (617) 495-4024, or write to firstname.lastname@example.org from the e-mail address in your Extension record. You should learn your Harvard ID and request your Harvard PIN as soon as possible after registering, to ensure you have the online access you need when classes begin.
Please keep your ID numbers and PINs confidential.
