Sustainability and carbon management experts Richard Goode and Stelios Pesmajoglou team up this spring as the new instructors for ENVR E-116 Planning for Carbon Neutrality: Practical Methods for Implementing Greenhouse Gas Reduction.
The new field of greenhouse gas emissions management specializes in helping institutions and corporations identify and mitigate their contributions to climate change. This course gives students the practical tools and skills necessary to set and achieve a carbon reduction goal and compete in this burgeoning professional market.
Co-instructor Richard Goode is the senior director of sustainability at Alcatel-Lucent. In this role, Rich leads the company’s efforts in measuring, reporting, and setting CO2 reduction targets, and creating and implementing sustainability programs across Alcatel-Lucent. Rich also integrates sustainability issues into the planning, business, and decision-making functions of the company, challenging the established ways to build lasting business value.
Co-instructor Stelios Pesmajoglou is responsible for developing the professional certification programs of the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute (GHGMI) in Washington, DC. Stelios has more than 14 years of international experience on a broad range of issues relating to climate change.
“Rich Goode and Stelios Pesmajoglou bring relevant, first-hand practical knowledge to the classroom. Their divergent experience (Rich brings a corporate sustainability perspective and Stelios has a scientific and academic background) will give students valuable, concrete skills,” says Dr. John D. Spengler, director of the sustainability and environmental management (SEM) program at Harvard Extension School.
Planning for Carbon Neutrality: Practical Methods for Implementing Greenhouse Gas Reduction meets Mondays, beginning January 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Classes are videotaped so online students from around the world can view classes at their convenience.
