Harvard Extension School offers more than 150 online classes available to students around the world. Because we are a part-time school, we do not issue I-20 certificates for the F-1 student visa. There is no appropriate visa category for students whose primary purpose for coming to the United States is part-time study.
Featuring videos of Harvard faculty and industry experts teaching classes on campus, these online classes offer a challenging opportunity to gain professional skills and global perspectives at a renowned American university.
All courses except those in the Institute for English Language Programs require English proficiency, and proof of proficiency must be provided for certain subjects. In addition, degree programs have a separate English proficiency requirement for admission, which is described in each program section.
Do you live in Boston? Learn English through courses offered on campus in the fall, spring, or January session. See the Institute for English Language Programs website.
Although the Extension School does not offer online degrees, you can apply some online classes toward a degree.
Each degree program has a residency requirement. You can take some required on-campus-only courses at Harvard Summer School, which issues I-20 certificates for full-time study and offers housing. Proof of English proficiency is required.
Interested in short, noncredit courses? See professional development programs offered by the Division of Continuing Education.
