Jeffry A. Frieden, PhD

Stanfield Professor of International Peace, Harvard University

Jeffry Frieden is a professor of government at Harvard University. He specializes in the politics of international monetary and financial relations. Frieden's most recent books are Currency Politics: The Political Economy of Exchange Rate Policy (Princeton University Press, 2015); Lost Decades: The Making of America's Debt Crisis and the Long Recovery (with Menzie Chinn; W. W. Norton and Company, 2012) and Global Capitalism: Its Fall and Rise in the Twentieth Century (W. W. Norton and Company, 2007). He is also the author of Banking on the World: The Politics of American International Finance (Harper and Row, 1987), and Debt, Development, and Democracy: Modern Political Economy and Latin America, 1965-1985 (Princeton University Press, 1992). He is the editor or co-editor of more than a dozen other books on related topics. His articles on the politics of international economic issues have appeared in a wide variety of scholarly and general-interest publications.

This course analyzes the intersection of politics and economics in the international arena. It focuses on international trade, investment and monetary policies, and financial relations. Discussion of developed, developing, and formerly centrally planned nations is included.
