Course selection and thesis advising

You may contact the program director and research advisor, Cheryl Vaughan, by e-mail cheryl_vaughan@harvard.edu or by phone (617) 998-8548, to identify courses from the biotechnology curriculum that can support your research interests and career goals.

In addition, be sure to contact her when you have completed at least 6 courses and are ready to begin the thesis proposal process. Please do not begin work on you thesis proposal before talking to Dr. Vaughan as not all research projects can be approved.

Tips from our advisors:

  • Read the website thoroughly. Most of your questions are answered here.
  • Attend an information session.
  • Apply early, preferably in the semester you anticipate completing your third preadmission course. Being a degree candidate has its perks, including early registration and access to various resources. See the perks of candidacy.
  • Take advantage of resources such as the Career and Academic Resource Center, Writing Center, and libraries.
  • Be aware of academic integrity policies and registration deadlines in the calendar. If you cannot complete a course, don’t just stop attending: formally withdraw from the class by the required deadline.
  • Become part of the Harvard community. Join the student association and attend campus events listed in the Harvard Gazette calendar.
