Robert Brown is a professor of communications at Salem State University. A former speechwriter for the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, Brown's speeches on crisis communication and public diplomacy appear in the June and July issues of Vital Speeches of the Day.
Brown serves on the editorial board of The Public Relations Review, a peer-reviewed journal. His op-ed pieces have appeared in the Boston Globe and other newspapers. His chapter on ethics and theory in public relations appears in the Handbook of Public Relations, published by Sage and available in July 2010. Brown is also the author scholarly articles on public relations, including "St. Paul as a PR Practitioner," in Public Relations Review.
Brown has taught graduate seminars in communications at UExternado-Bogota, Columbia, and will be a visiting professor at Ramon Llull University in Barcelona beginning May, 2011. He is coauthor of translations of Joan Alover, a Catalan poet.
Brown received a PhD in English from the University of Rochester, and a bachelor of science in economics from the Wharton School. In 2004, he was given the JoAnne Fussa Distinguished Teaching Award.
