ID Numbers and PINs
As an Extension School student, you have 2 sets of identification (ID) numbers and associated personal identification numbers (PINs).
DCE ID number and PIN
The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) encompasses Harvard Extension School and Summer School. And your DCE ID number and 6-digit DCE PIN provide access to online services for both schools. You can use online services to complete the following tasks:
- Register for courses, check your schedule, and make course changes
- Make payments
- View your grades
- Evaluate your courses
- Update your contact information (e-mail and postal addresses, telephone numbers)
- View your Harvard ID number and other personal information
Your DCE ID number begins with the “@” symbol and is assigned when you first log in to Extension or Summer School online services. If you do not know your DCE ID number, you may request it from the online services login page or visit our Information Services lobby at 51 Brattle Street with a photo ID.
A DCE PIN is assigned to you the first time you register for Extension School or Summer School courses as part of your online registration. If you register on paper, it is sent to you via US mail. You may change your DCE PIN online. If you do not know it, select the appropriate link on the online services login page.
Harvard ID number and PIN
Your Harvard ID number and PIN provide access to the following:
- Password-protected distance education videos
- Some password-protected course websites
- Extension School portal pages
- Harvard computer accounts
- Harvard library electronic resources
- Extension and Summer School online services (Choose the PIN Server button under “Login with Harvard University ID and PIN” on the login page.)
Your Harvard ID number (labeled HUID) appears at the top of the Extension School registration confirmation that is sent to you by US mail. You can also see your Harvard ID number by logging in to online services and selecting “Student Information and Status.”
Once you have your Harvard ID number, you need to obtain a Harvard PIN via the Harvard PIN System. You may do this 1 business day after you register. Note that if you do not see an option for receiving the Harvard PIN via e-mail, or if you do not receive your PIN within 15 minutes via e-mail, then your e-mail address may not be correct in the central Harvard University system. To correct this problem, call Information Services, Mondays through Fridays, 9 am to 5 pm, at (617) 495-4024, or log in to online services and select “Report Problem with Harvard PIN.”
