Registration
To take courses at Harvard Extension School, you simply register. No application is required.
How and when to register
Registration for January and spring courses opens December 7.

Preregister November 23 to December 6.
Complete these tasks so you are ready to register December 7.- New students: If you submit your biographical information and pay the $50 registration fee early, you can obtain your ID number and PIN, which you need to register. Choose “Preregister” in the “New Student?” box on the login page to get started.
- Returning students: Log in and update your address and biographical information.
- Placement tests: Log in to take online placement tests or reserve a seat for the English language placement test.

Register beginning December 7.
Early registration is encouraged. Note that the administrative offices will be closed December 24 to January 1.- Online. Register online if paying by credit card.
- By mail or in person. Download a paper form and mail or deliver it to 51 Brattle Street.
- Tip. If you register for at least 1 course by the registration deadline, you can add courses through January 6 for the January session and February 7 for spring.

At the start of classes, you can register late, with a $50 late fee.
- January courses begin January 5. Late registration is January 4 to 6.
- Spring courses begin January 25. Late registration is January 25 to February 7.
- You may drop courses for a full-tuition refund during late registration.

Institute for English Language Programs (IEL) students:
- To register for an English course for nonnative speakers, visit the IEL website for dates and instructions.
Tuition and fees
Registration requires full payment of tuition (listed in course descriptions) and a nonrefundable $50 registration fee each term. For payment information, including financial aid, see Tuition and Payment.
