Faculty Aide Program

You may become a research assistant to a faculty member if you have a 3.5 or higher grade point average and have completed 4 courses at the Extension School. This program provides an opportunity to sharpen your research skills while supporting faculty in their research projects. You can also gain classroom experience through internship opportunities at St. Peter’s School. You can earn $12 an hour for up to 50 hours. Review the Faculty Aide Program information sheet and petition.

Special Student status

Special Student status enables you to enroll in a maximum of 2 Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) courses, or 1 GSAS and 1 cross-registered course. All other coursework for the degree must be completed through the Harvard Extension and Harvard Summer Schools.

If you have a GPA of 3.7 or higher and have completed a minimum of 24 graduate credits at the time of your application, you may apply with a strong course registration proposal and recommendations from 2 Harvard Extension School instructors and your program director. This option is only for courses not ordinarily offered at the Harvard Extension or Harvard Summer Schools.

The application deadlines are September 1 for spring 2010 and February 1 for fall 2010. Special Students pay the full GSAS tuition of $4,210 per course.  See Forms to download the Special Student Information Sheet and Petition. The program will not accept courses that are not preapproved.
