The Northeast Mycological Federation (NEMF) has presented the Amicus Tironum Award to Donald Pfister, Asa Gray Professor of Systematic Botany at Harvard, curator of Harvard’s Farlow Library and Herbarium, and Harvard Extension School faculty member.

Pfister, who is teaching BIOS E-120 Woody Plants and New England Forests this spring, was presented the award at the organization’s 33rd annual foray held this month in Eastham on Cape Cod, where he was recognized for his work as a mycologist, an educator, and a mentor for mycophiles at all levels. The Amicus Tironum “friend of the novice or amateur” Award is reserved for mycologists or other experts in fungal taxonomy who have been especially helpful to amateurs.

NEMF is a consortium of 18 member mycological clubs located from Canada to Virginia. Its purpose is to stimulate interest in mycology and to provide a forum where both amateur and professional mycologists can share their experiences and knowledge and work together.
