This course is an introduction to descriptive and inferential statistics, including correlation and regression, hypothesis testing, estimation, and elementary probability. Students learn to analyze data using PC-based statistical software. No previous knowledge of statistics is assumed. Students cannot count both STAT E-50 and STAT E-102 toward a degree. Prerequisites: high school algebra, or the equivalent, and satisfactory math placement test score. (4 credits)

This course is an introduction to statistical methods used in biological and medical research. Elementary probability theory, basic concepts of statistical inference, regression and correlation methods, analysis of variance, and study design are covered. Emphasis on applications to medical problems. Students cannot count both STAT E-50 and STAT E-102 toward a degree. Prerequisite: high school algebra. (4 credits)

This course is an introduction to the practice of statistical analysis, taught using Major League Baseball as its subject matter. Topics include probability, random variables, sampling, ANOVA, regression, and hypothesis testing. Students are expected to complete a baseball-related research project. (4 credits)
