Gene M. Heyman
Lecturer on Psychology, Harvard Medical School
Gene Heyman is a lecturer on psychology at Harvard Medical School. He received his PhD in experimental psychology from Harvard. Upon completion of his graduate work, Heyman worked for a major drug company, supervising CNS animal research and studying the role of dopamine in reward. In 1989 he returned to Harvard to teach in the psychology department and start a new research program on topics relevant to addiction. The most recent human studies examined the relationships between working memory, decision-making, and drug use in clinic and nonclinic populations. Heyman's work on addiction sparked his interest in the history and sociology of drug use, as well as popular and scientific understandings of addiction. His book, Addiction: A Disorder of Choice, was published this year.
