Limited-Enrollment Courses and Waitlists
Many courses have enrollment limits, and such courses are identified in their course descriptions. When registering for limited-enrollment courses that require placement tests, you are admitted in the order in which you register and pass the tests.
To Register for Courses with Limited Enrollment
-
Check course availability. Use the course search for courses and course availability.
-
Register online. It is the fastest way to register. You know immediately whether you are admitted, waitlisted, or closed out of a course so that you can register for an alternate course, if necessary.
Register early in the registration period. Courses with limited enrollment fill quickly, and registration is first-come, first-served.
-
If the course is full when you register, you are placed on a waitlist and charged full tuition. If the waitlist is full, the course is closed and you may not attend or register for it.
-
Once registered or waitlisted, attend all classes (or participate via distance, if applicable) and complete all required work to keep your seat through the late registration period. If you do not attend or participate during the first two weeks of the term, your seat may be given to a waitlisted student who does attend and participate.
Information for Students on Waitlists
-
You are charged full tuition.
-
Your waitlist position is based on the time of your registration.
-
We cannot predict your chances for admission.
-
To be eligible for admission, you must attend all classes (or participate via distance, if applicable) and complete all required work.
-
Instructors do not make admissions decisions. Instructors report attendance to the Registrar’s Office, where admissions decisions are made, so that only attending and participating students are admitted.
-
To see if you are still waitlisted, log in to online services and select “Course Registration and Schedule” from the main menu. You will be sent an e-mail message within 24 hours of being admitted to a course or closed off of a waitlist.
-
You may withdraw from a waitlist for a full-tuition refund at any time before the refund deadline.
-
You should attend an alternate, open enrollment course in case you are not admitted from the waitlist. If your alternate course has an enrollment limit, you should register for it so that you may attend and be eligible for admission.
-
Waitlists are resolved a few days after the late registration and full-tuition refund deadline, at the latest.
-
If you are not admitted to the course for which you are waitlisted, you will be issued a full-tuition refund for that course, and you may no longer attend it.
-
If you are admitted to the course for which you are waitlisted and you had registered for an alternate course, you will need to drop the alternate course by the full-tuition refund deadline if you do not want to be registered and enrolled in both courses.
