Certificate in Publishing and Communications
Certificate Program to be Retired
Beginning fall 2009, the certificate program will be phased out. It is no longer accepting applications. If you have questions, contact the admission advisor, Jody Clineff, clineff@dcemail.harvard.edu.
From books to online media, the fields of publishing and communications require a variety of skills and experiences. With a strong writing focus, the Certificate in Publishing and Communications (CPC) provides the technical and professional training you need to enter or to advance a career in publishing, media production, or professional communications.
Requirements
To earn the certificate, meet the following requirements.
- Complete seven courses and an internship (32 credits):
- Three core courses: EXPO E-170, HUMA E-105/W, and a subject-matter course (approved by the program director)
- Four electives from the elective fields listed below (maximum two electives from any one field).
- An internship

Take all courses for graduate credit at Harvard Extension School or Summer School, and earn a B– or higher grade in each (B or higher in the three required for admission) and an overall GPA of 3.0. See Academic Standing and Enrollment.

Complete at least three of the eight courses with Harvard-affiliated instructors. The internship counts as one Harvard-affiliated-instructor course.
- Complete the program within five years of the first course. If you are unable to complete the certificate within five years you are retired from the program.
