Frequently Asked Questions

What does the diploma say?

The diploma reads UNIVERSITAS HARVARDIANA (Harvard University); then, after the graduate’s name comes Magistri in Artibus Liberalibus Studiorum Prolatorum (Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies).

How do I present the degree on a résumé?

Master of Liberal Arts, General Management, Harvard University Extension School.

Will this program help me get into Harvard Business School?

Whether you are interested in a master of business administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School or any other graduate management program, you should consult the admissions representative of that school before taking courses at Harvard Extension School. Taking a few of our management courses can help you confirm your interest in pursuing graduate study and may help make the first year of an MBA program more manageable. However, many MBA programs do not accept transfer credit, and some will not admit students with another graduate management degree, so check with any school whose MBA program you are considering to understand the admission process and requirements.

Can I get an I-20 for a student visa?

If you complete the courses required for admission and are admitted to the program, you may be eligible for an I-20 through the Extension School. See international students for more information.

Can I earn the degree online?

No. The program was never intended to be offered online and while we offer many courses through distance education, we believe the on-campus experience is very important and thus we don’t offer the Master of Liberal Arts in Management or the Certificate in Management entirely online.

What is the capstone course?

The capstone course is an integration-focused course that brings together much of the material learned in previous management courses to focus on how various functional areas come together to create and execute on an organizations strategy. For more information, read the course description for MGMT E-599 Strategic Management Capstone Course.
