For most concentrations the 10 courses must include the following:
| Proseminar | 1 |
| Field courses, including at least one seminar in the field | 6* |
| Elective courses, including one writing-intensive course or seminar | 2* |
| Thesis | 1 |
* Psychology and biology concentrators must take a statistics course. Biology concentrators may use it as either a field course or an elective. Psychology concentrators may use it only as an elective.
For the literature and creative writing concentration:

| English or foreign literature courses including one seminar | 3 |
