How to Apply
To apply to the ALM Program, submit the following:
- A completed online application form (login required) or request a hard copy of the application at alm@dcemail.harvard.edu. Note: the online and in print application form is available only during the application periods.
- Two essays (topics specified on the application).
- A nonrefundable $75 application fee ($35 if you register by May 15, 2009).
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities from which a degree has been received (sent directly from the registrars to the ALM Office). Additional transcripts are required if half of the credits earned toward a degree were transfer courses.
Literature and creative writing concentration only: Applicants to this concentration must also submit original manuscripts in both fiction and criticism. Manuscripts are read twice a year, with submission deadlines of August 29 and February 5.
When to Apply
The ALM Office admits students on a rolling-admission basis. Notifications of admission decisions are sent by mail, normally within eight weeks after receipt of the complete application. Students should apply for admission as soon as they complete the three prerequisite courses. Those intending to seek financial aid are also welcome to apply during the term in which they anticipate completing their prerequisites, in order to be admitted shortly after grades are posted. Students who present more than four courses when applying pay an additional $125 late fee. If students delay their application to the program more than two years after completing the proseminar, they are required to retake the course.
