In this course, students discuss a variety of cultural and topical events appearing in different media. In making several individual and group oral presentations about these issues during the course, students are guided to observe, monitor, and master the norms of oral communication and to practice offering helpful feedback to their classmates.

In this course, students work to master the norms for citing and attributing data from print and other sources, and to observe the methods of acknowledging the research findings of others while practicing the process method by producing increasingly refined drafts of academic papers.

This course is for students who wish to improve their English language skills in order to function competently in business contexts that demand analytical competence as well as historical, moral, scientific, and social perspective. Students use a variety of texts that expand their structural control of the language and provide broad cultural knowledge as they engage in individual and group assignments to develop the listening, reading, speaking, and writing abilities that are appropriate for doing business in English around the world.
