Citations

Take Courses in a Concentrated Area

Most students at the Extension School have college degrees and are taking courses for personal enrichment or professional development, not to fulfill degree requirements. If you would like to pursue concentrated study in an area independent of a program, you can earn an Extension School citation for the acquired knowledge or competency. The opportunity may also be available if you are in a degree, certificate, or diploma program, although you must first consult a program advisor.

How It Works

After completing four courses with grades of B- or higher in a discipline within three years, students can request a citation, the award of which will be reflected on their transcript. Citations will not be awarded retroactively; the request must be made at the end of the semester upon completion of the final course(s).

Up to two previous courses completed from fall 2006 through summer 2008 can be counted toward the four needed for a citation awarded in 2008-09. There is no limit on the number of citations you can earn, but a course cannot count toward more than one citation.

List of Citations

A list of eligible courses for each area you may concentrate in is below. Courses marked with a dagger (†) are available via the Internet. (See Distance Education.)
