Enrollment

Enrollment Status

One unit of credit is equivalent to one semester hour. Students enrolled in at least 14 units per term qualify for full-time status. Those enrolled in at least 8 units per term qualify for half-time status. Courses in which students are assigned withdrawal (WD) and required-to-withdraw (RQ) grades are excluded from the calculation of enrollment status. All certifications of current enrollment status, including loan deferment certifications, are based on these definitions. Full-time students must submit certificates of immunization.

Students are limited to 16 units per term unless they are candidates in degree, certificate, or diploma programs or in the Health Careers Program and they receive their program advisor's approval. Students who do not have approval and do not reduce their credit enrollment to 16 units by the full-tuition-refund deadline are withdrawn from overload courses and issued a full-tuition refund for those courses.

Course Prerequisites

Students are responsible for ensuring that they are adequately prepared for the courses in which they enroll. Prerequisites for individual courses are listed in the course descriptions. A student who registers for a course without having the listed prerequisites, including English language proficiency, runs the risk of being withdrawn from the course by the Registrar. For courses that require submission of writing samples, students must be registered or waitlisted for those courses before their materials are reviewed. Distance education students are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary computer systems, software (including all software needed to complete course assignments), and Internet access to view the course via the Internet throughout the term. Placement tests are required for admission to some courses.

Immunization

In compliance with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Immunization Regulations, all students who enroll full time (14 units) or who enroll while on a student or other visa must submit proof of immunization against certain communicable diseases.

These students must submit proof of measles vaccination (two live immunizations at least 30 days apart on or after the first birthday in 1967 or later); rubella vaccination (one immunization on or after the first birthday in 1967 or later); mumps vaccination (one immunization on or after the first birthday in 1967 or later); a tetanus-diphtheria booster (one booster within the last ten years); a hepatitis B immunization series (three doses over six months); and a meningococcal vaccine at least two weeks before the start of classes. A waiver of the meningococcal vaccine may be allowed.

Documentation of a positive blood test for immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and hepatitis B is acceptable in lieu of immunizations. (Download* a certificate of immunization form.) Completed forms are due in the Registrar's Office by September 23 for the fall term and February 3 for the spring term.
