Requirements

Candidates for the ALM in Environmental Management must complete ten courses: four required courses, five electives, and a master's project. After candidates have completed six environmental management courses, they must complete the proseminar ENVR E-200. Courses that help prepare students for ENVR E-200 and the thesis include EXPO E-15 and EXPO E-25/E-25b.

Candidates must earn a grade of B- or higher in each course and maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0 in courses taken for graduate credit at Harvard Extension School, Harvard Summer School, or the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Candidates must complete six courses with Harvard-affiliated instructors. Courses marked H in the degree courses section count toward this requirement. The master's thesis or project counts as one Harvard-affiliated instructor course.

Specific degree requirements are further detailed in this section and on the courses page. Also see Prerequisite Courses and Admission.

Five-Year Limit

Candidates must complete all requirements for the degree, including the master's thesis or project, within five years after the date of admission or, if the application is delayed, the date of completion of the third course. Students unable to complete the degree within the five-year limit are retired from the program.
