Award Process
The Financial Aid Office sends students award letters indicating the amounts and types of aid for which they are eligible. Students must return a signed copy of that award letter, indicating their acceptance or rejection of each type of aid offered.
Once a student has been admitted to an academic program and accepted his or her award, he or she is officially awarded and may register for classes using anticipated financial aid. At the end of the registration period when a student's appropriate enrollment is confirmed, financial aid funds are credited to a student's Extension School account. Financial aid in excess of tuition and fees is refunded within 14 days after the financial aid credit is entered on the account. Refund checks are made payable to the student and mailed to the address on record.
Maurice S. Neustadt Loan Fund
This fund, established in 1992 through a bequest from Maurice S. Neustadt, provides short-term loans to students who have been officially awarded and are registered, but whose financial aid has not yet been received. The loan takes ten business days to process and funds are not available before the first day of classes. Students may borrow up to $1,000 against anticipated financial aid. The money received from this fund, essentially an advance on anticipated aid, can be used for books and living expenses. Students must repay this loan within two months. No interest is charged for this loan.
