Limited-Enrollment Courses and Waitlists
Courses with limited enrollment are so noted in the individual course descriptions. Students should register online and as early as possible for these courses because many of them close long before classes begin. Prospective students can view current course enrollments and availability online without having to provide ID numbers or PINs.
Admission to limited-enrollment courses is on a first-come, first-served basis. Students applying to courses with placement tests are admitted in the order in which they register and pass the tests. Students registered for limited-enrollment courses must attend all class meetings and do all required coursework to keep their seats in the courses. Special requests for admission, either from students or instructors, are not honored.
Students who register for a limited-enrollment course using paper forms may provide an alternate course when registering. Students are enrolled in the alternate course if the limited-enrollment course is closed and space in the alternate course is available. Students who do not indicate an alternate course are placed on a waitlist for the closed course provided waitlist space is available.
Students who are placed on a waitlist for a limited-enrollment course are charged full tuition. To keep their waitlist places and remain eligible for admission, they must attend all class meetings and do all required coursework until their status is resolved. Placement on a waitlist is no guarantee of admission to a closed course. Waitlisted students should check their status regularly online; they are also sent revised confirmations once their status is resolved. Students who are not admitted to limited-enrollment courses and do not register for replacement courses are issued full tuition refunds. The registration fee is nonrefundable. Students who do not wish to remain on the waitlist for a closed course must withdraw from the course online or submit a written withdrawal request to the Extension School according to withdrawal procedures.
