Other Sources of Funding

Tuition Assistance Plan

Many salaried staff members at Harvard University are eligible for tuition assistance under the University's Tuition Assistance Plan (TAP). All questions about eligibility and requests for TAP forms should be directed to Harvard University's Benefits Services Group, (617) 496-4001.

Veterans Benefits

Eligible veterans may be entitled to educational benefits at the Extension School. They may be certified for benefits for two terms; to continue to be certified after two terms, they must be admitted to an Extension School degree, certificate, or diploma program. For more information, veterans should call Student Financial Services, (617) 495-5850.

Private Sources of Funding

Students should begin searching more than a year in advance of the time they will need funding. There are resources available locally and on the Web to help search for private funding. The Higher Education Information Center, (800) 442-1171, is located in the Boston Public Library and offers a variety of services to help research funding. The FinAid website provides comprehensive information on loans and scholarships, and links to other sites. Students can also investigate private funding from groups with which they are associated, such as professional organizations, fraternal groups, unions, corporations, and churches.

If other funding options have been exhausted, students may wish to borrow from a private educational lender. Students may apply to the lender directly. Most students who borrow privately use the CitiAssist® Loan through Citibank, (800) 745-5473, or the Signature Student Loan through SallieMae, (800) 695-3317. Eligibility is based on credit history and, in some cases, ability to repay.

When a private education loan is approved, the Financial Aid Office is required to certify costs and attendance at the Extension School. To speed certification, students must submit the supplemental form for students applying to private education lenders, which may be downloaded from this website. (To download PDFs students must have Adobe's Acrobat Reader installed on their computers.)

Other Scholarships

Some scholarships are available to other students (not just admitted candidates). For more information see Scholarships and Financial Aid in the Resources section of the Extension School website.
