Deadlines
There are different deadlines to consider depending on the kind of aid for which students apply and when they apply for it. Students should read this website and speak with their academic advisors so that they can coordinate all processes. Also see Completing the Application for a list of required materials.
In order to meet Financial Aid Office deadlines, students must submit their Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSAs) or Federal Renewal Applications to the FAFSA processing agency at least four weeks prior to the Financial Aid Office deadlines, or two weeks prior to the deadlines if they use the Internet. If students do not submit their FAFSA forms according to these deadlines, the necessary FAFSA data may not be received by the Financial Aid Office in time (see below). If students are completing their FAFSAs before completing their 2003 federal tax returns, they should estimate the tax figures on the FAFSA. The figures can be corrected later if necessary.
If students wish to receive aid from their states, there are additional deadlines governing submission of the FAFSA that they must follow. For the MASSGrant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, FAFSA must be received by the FAFSA processing agency no later than May 1, 2004. For scholarships from Rhode Island, student residents must submit their FAFSA so that their processor receives them by March 1, 2004. See the FAFSA website for other state deadlines.
If students apply for federal loans after the deadline and are determined to be eligible, they will be reimbursed during the semester.
