Registering with Funds

Students must be officially awarded or have an approved private source of funding before submitting registration forms to Student Financial Services or registering online. They must indicate that they are financial aid students and include payment for any tuition or fees not covered by financial aid. If students wish to pay for health insurance or other fees with financial aid funds, they must submit a written request to Student Financial Services each semester.

Changes in Enrollment Status

Financial aid awards are based on the number of units for which students are enrolled. Any changes in course enrollment or credit status may affect financial aid eligibility. Students must inform the Financial Aid Office of any registration changes. If students drop courses, any tuition refund will be applied to the remaining balance of any scholarship or loan.

Students are urged to discuss any financial or enrollment status changes in advance with the Financial Aid Office so that an assessment can be made of how those changes will affect financial aid. If students have loan debt and plan to graduate this year, or if they leave school for any reason, they must make an appointment with the Financial Aid Office for loan counseling.

If students register based on expected financial aid but are later determined to be ineligible, full payment of tuition must be received within five business days of the date of the determination of ineligibility or they may be withdrawn from classes.

Withdrawal from School

If students withdraw from all their classes before 60 percent of the semester is over, the Financial Aid Office must calculate the amount of Title IV funds (Stafford Loans and Perkins Loans) and state funding that must be returned to the US Department of Education or State Office of Student Financial Assistance. The amount to be returned is proportionate to the part of the semester that was not completed. If students withdraw after 60 percent of the semester has passed, no funds have to be returned. A full description of the calculation with case examples will be mailed with each award letter and is available upon request from the Financial Aid Office.
