Requirements
Candidates must earn a grade of B- or higher in each course and maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 in professional studies degree courses taken for graduate credit at Harvard Extension School, Harvard Summer School, or the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS). Candidates must complete ten courses (40 units) in either the software engineering or the mathematics and computation concentration, including a master's thesis or project; or 12 courses (48 units) in the information management systems concentration, including a capstone course that includes a formal oral presentation to a faculty committee.
Harvard-Affiliated Instructors
Candidates must complete six courses with Harvard-affiliated instructors. Courses marked (H) on the Courses page count toward the Harvard-affiliated instructor requirement. The master's thesis or project counts as one Harvard-affiliated instructor course.
Specific degree requirements are further detailed in this section and on the courses page. Also see Prerequisite Courses and Admission.
Five-Year Limit
Candidates must complete all requirements for the degree, including the master's thesis or project, within five years after the date of admission or, if the application is delayed, the date of completion of the third professional studies degree course. Students unable to complete the degree within the five-year limit are retired from the program.
