Completing the Application
When the Financial Aid Office has received all of the documentation below by the appropriate deadlines and students have met all other eligibility requirements, their files will be reviewed for eligibility for need-based assistance.
- Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR)
The ISIR is an electronic format report released to schools by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) processing agency after the FAFSA has been processed. Students must authorize this release by listing the Harvard Extension School (Federal School Code E00209) on the FAFSA. It is the student's responsibility to see that the Financial Aid Office receives his or her ISIR by the deadline. See Deadlines for important information about submitting the FAFSA on time.
- Financial Aid Office General Information Form
Download the form, or send e-mail, or call (617) 495-4293 to request one. (To download PDFs students must have Adobe's Acrobat Reader installed on their computer.)
- 2003 Federal Income Tax Return
Students must include all schedules, and the return must be signed and dated. If the student did not file, he or she must submit a completed and signed Department of Education 2004-05 Verification Worksheet. If the student is married at the time he or she completes the FAFSA, the student's spouse must also submit a signed and dated copy of his or her federal tax return, or a 2004-05 Verification Worksheet, if applicable. Students and spouses see http://ifap.ed.gov/vgworksheets/0405VerificationWkSht.html to download the appropriate Verification Worksheet(s).
- Documentation of Income and Benefits
Students should submit copies of all W-2 and 1099 Forms, as well as documentation of any other income (including Social Security benefits), regardless of whether they filed tax returns. If the student is married, his or her spouse must submit copies of all W-2 and 1099 Forms, as well as documentation of any other income.
- Supplemental Application Forms and Documents
Additional forms and/or documents are required if students are applying for private sources of funding.
- Harvard Summer School Supplemental Financial Aid Application Form
Students should use this form to indicate to the Financial Aid Office that they want aid to be awarded for Summer School. Forms may be downloaded from this website. (To download PDFs students must have Adobe's Acrobat Reader installed on their computers.) Please do not submit Summer Supplemental Financial Aid Forms until after February 1, 2005.
Special Courses
Federal money can be used for independent projects, internships, and Special Student courses. Students must provide written documentation to the Financial Aid Office. Students should contact the Financial Aid Office to find out which funds they may be eligible for and any documents required.
Student Right to Appeal
If a student has missed a financial aid application deadline due to extenuating circumstances, he or she has the right to file an appeal. An appeal must include a written explanation of the reason(s) for being late, along with completed financial aid application materials, including the ISIR.
