Most candidates have five years to complete the program (international students on student visas must complete it in one academic year). The average length of time most students take to complete the program is 2 years.

Check with the master's program to which you are applying to find out what their transfer credit policy is.

Are there any courses offered in summer?

Each summer there are a few elective courses that can be counted towards the CMS. The core courses and the Museum Studies courses are not offered in summer.

What if I'm not sure I want to do the whole program. . . can I still take some of these courses?

Anyone may take courses at the Harvard Extension School. However, it is recommended that you take the courses for graduate credit so that if you should decide to apply to the program at a later date, those courses can be counted.

I have copies of my undergrad transcripts. . . can I submit them with my application?

No. Official transcripts from the colleges/universities you have attended must be sent directly from the school to our office.

Can I get a student ID? What kind of access do I get with my student ID?

Once you are admitted into the program and registered for classes, you are eligible to get an ID card. In addition to library access, the card gets you access to things like Harvard athletic facilities.

What kind of job can I get when I'm done with the program? Can you find me a job?

We do not offer job placement. We do maintain an alumni email distribution list and forward any notifications of job openings we receive to those alumni who keep their email address up to date.

Do you have financial aid?

Admitted candidates are eligible to apply for financial aid. Contact the Extension School financial aid office for information on application deadlines.

I work at a museum. Can I count that as my internship?

It is not possible to count current work experience towards the CMS internship. Each internship must provide a new learning experience for the student.
